Record-Breaking Bathrooms: 5 Surprising Bath-Related World Records

Description

It’s easy to assume that the bathroom is simply a place to wash, unwind, and de-stress after a long week.

While that’s certainly the case for most of us, there are those who take the bathroom to the next level. In fact, there are some folks who take it all the way to record-breaking levels. This idea got us thinking: just what are the best bathroom-related world records? Well, we did a little digging and we’ve discovered 5 of the most surprising world records which have at least something to do with bathrooms.

Oh, before you ask, none of them involve baked beans…

#5. The Highest Number of People to Shower Simultaneously

If you’re anything like us, you probably prefer to take your showers solo, but – for a group known as “Irish Springs” – this is the last thing they want to do. The reason is simple: this US-based group hold the world record for the highest number of people showering simultaneously. That number? 396! That’s right: almost 400 people stood together in June 2018 in Dover, Delaware, USA and shared a record-breaking mass shower. Rather them than us!

#4: The Longest Time Spent Sitting on the Toilet

When it comes to entering the record books, you’ve really got to think outside the box, but in the case of one Belgian man, it’s possible to take it a bit too far. Back in 2019, Jimmy De Frenne, a 48-year-old Belgian man, took it upon himself to smash the record for the longest time spent sitting on the toilet. His goal was to hit 165 hours (almost seven days) of sitting on the loo, however, due to sore legs, he only made it to 116 hours. The Guinness World Records team have yet to comment on the validity of the record, so it looks like Jimmy will have to sit tight.

#3: The Fastest Time to Unravel a Toilet Roll

There are few children in the world who haven’t spent at least a few minutes unravelling a toilet roll – much to the dismay of their parents. But who knew there’s actually a world record for this feat? It’s a fact – and it’s a record currently held by a Serbian man called Dalibor Jablanovic. Back in 2013, Dalibor secured his place in the record books by unravelling an entire toilet roll in just 9.80 seconds. What makes this even more impressive? He did it all with just one hand.

#2: The Longest Time Spent Submerged in an Ice Bath

When someone earns themselves the nickname “The Iceman”, you shouldn’t be too surprised that they’ve broken the world record for longest time submerged in an ice bath sixteen times. We’re referring to a man named Wim Hof, a Dutch extreme athlete known for his penchant for breaking world records which require incredible physical endurance. He holds a number of ice-related world records, but his record for submerging himself in an ice bath was in fact broken by someone else – Josef Koberl – in 2019, who sat in ice for two hours, eight minutes, and 47 seconds. That said, it’s surely a matter of time until Wim claims back his crown.

#1: The World’s Most Expensive Bathroom

Here at the Spa Bath Co, we know a thing or two about bathroom luxury – but this one surprised even us. The Guinness World Record for the world’s most expensive bathroom is held by an unknown (but very wealthy) individual for whom a washroom was constructed valued at £2.4 million. The washroom can be found in Hong Kong and is built entirely out of gold and precious gems. Everything from the toilet bowl to the wash basin is solid 24-carat gold, and the ceiling is encrusted with emeralds, sapphires, and rubies. It’s so luxurious, in fact, that we’d almost feel bad about using the facilities!

If you’re feeling a little shell-shocked by the price tag on that record-breaking bathroom, don’t worry. You can always make yourself feel a little better by browsing our (much more reasonably priced) online bathroom shop
