What Will Your Bathroom Look Like in 2016?

Much like the world of fashion, bathroom design trends are always on the move.

As we slowly turn the corner into 2016, we thought this would be a great time for us to make our predictions for the popular bathroom design trends of next year. Will modern design remain top of the pile, or is it time for something a little more traditional to make its mark? Let’s find out.

High technology

We’ve discussed this a couple of times before on The Whirlpool Bath Shop blog, and it seems that 2016 really will be the year for ‘smart bathrooms’ to come into their own. With more and more of us invested in the smartphone and tablet space, it’s not much of a jump to go from there to having smart-features inside the bathroom. Concepts such as electronically controlled lighting, water temperature, and music are all possibilities when technology meets 2016 bathroom design.

Nature’s colour palette

While 2015 has seen a surge in popularity for contrasting colours and monochrome motifs, it’s very possible that more natural colours will make a splash next year. You can expect to see colours like sandy brown, ochre, granite, and other shades that are sourced from nature itself. Don’t be surprised if you begin to see exposed stone effects on tile-work and other interior elements too. Mother Nature is back for 2016, and with the right colours and accessories, she’s going to make your bathroom look incredible.

A bit of plant-life

Going hand-in-hand with the last bathroom trend, plant-life is also tipped for resurgence in 2016. Of course, many people already have plants and flowers in the bathroom, but it’s still not as widespread as it might be. Simple green plants such as ferns are a great way to add a splash of colour without making the room’s design seem to artificial or industrial. And set against a backdrop of exposed stonework, it’s easy to imagine how the plant-life bathroom design trend might just take off in 2016.

Metallic highlights

Here’s a potential 2016 bathroom design trend that might not be to everybody’s tastes: metallic highlights. Whether this comes in the form of coated tiles or simply an entire wall emblazoned with gold leaf, you can expect to see quite a lot of shimmering and glimmering from metallic-style features in 2016’s bathrooms. Remember that one of the best things about these trends is that you can add as little or as much as you’d like, so you can create a tasteful metallic design without going overboard. If you’ve never considered the metallic bathroom design trend, 2016 might be a great time to start.
