Your bathroom routine is so ingrained in your day-to-day life that you might not even think about it anymore. Whether you live alone or with others, the bathroom routine is a core aspect of home life, both in the morning and the evening. But did you know that if you put a little thought into your bathroom routine, you could save time, reduce stress, and make the most of your bathroom time? It’s true! And here’s how…
Why your bathroom routine matters so much
Have you ever had one of those days when it feels like nothing goes right? It can sometimes be something as simple as an unoptimised bathroom routine that can have a knock-on effect like this. For example, if you (or a member of your family) takes just five minutes longer using the bathroom, it could mean you hit a rough spot of traffic on the way to work. Likewise, many of us do not brush our teeth for the recommended 2 minutes – instead choosing to save time by doing it quickly. In the long run, this can actually add up to potential dental problems. Other signs that your bathroom routine could do with organisation are having to skip things like shaving (or even showering), being regularly late for work, or stress-related problems like morning headaches.
How to streamline your bathroom routine
So if you are suffering from added stress and you think your bathroom routine could be to blame, how do you fix it? Well, don't worry, because there are lots of tried and true strategies to help. First, it's a good idea to actually list out the activities you need to complete each morning or evening. This could be having a bath or shower, brushing your teeth, fixing your hair and makeup, and so on. Using this list, you can then calculate an average amount of time for each activity. Then, you should be able to decide an ideal time at which to hit the bathroom of a morning in order to make your commute easier. It's all about building in a buffer of time to your day so that whatever comes next isn't rushed or hurried, it just happens in a straightforward and non-stressful way. Of course, it may not go without a hitch every day, but having a plan is a great way to start!
Don’t forget to make time for relaxation
Having a completely optimised and smooth-running bathroom routine is excellent for the times you need it (like workdays), but don't forget that the bathroom is also a place for relaxation. In addition to your regular routine for morning and night, we'd also recommend that you enjoy an untimed relaxing whirlpool bath or shower at least once a week, where you can kick back, de-stress, and not worry about any kind of routine. You could always try a little something extra in the form of a whirlpool bath oil, or maybe even go all out with an underwater lighting and sound system. Now that's what we call relaxation!
