How to Defeat a Winter Cold in 3 Easy Steps

Description

The sunhats are in deep storage and it’s mittens all around as we take our first steps into this year’s chilly winter. But while it may seem a mixed bag, with some days feeling mild and others feeling bitingly cold, there’s still the usual hazards to be wary of. And one of the biggest hazards of them all at the moment is the age-old winter cold. While a good supply of cold-and-flu pills and lemon drinks will help, there are also some preventative measures you can take if you have fallen prey to a cold just yet. So here’s how to defeat (or prevent) a winter cold in three easy steps.

Step 1: Stay hydrated and eat right

There’s a very good reason that doctors tell you to drink a lot of fluids when you’re suffering from a cold: they’ll help your body recover faster. Likewise, by taking in the right types of foods, vitamins and minerals you can also give yourself a chance at faster recovery. Water is highly recommended during a cold, but if you’re aiming to avoid one before it takes hold, you should try to increase your intake of vitamin C. Supplements such as Echinacea have been traditionally used to assist the prevention of colds, but there’s no hard scientific evidence that it works. Still, it’s worth a try if you really don’t want to get ill this season! Step

2: Stay warm at all times

Here’s something else that the doctor most likely ordered: staying warm. Whether you’re already fighting a cold or you’re fending one off, keeping your core temperature up is essential. You can do this in a few different ways, including adding layers of clothing, using central heating in just the room you’re in (which saves energy too), or – of course – taking a long, warm and relaxing whirlpool bath (or a regular bath or shower). Any of these measures will help you stay warm and avoid the bodily conditions that make you a prime target for those nasty cold viruses that are so prevalent this time of the year.

Step 3: If you have a cold, stay at home whenever possible

This may go without saying, but one of the reasons that so many of us end up suffering from colds each and every year is that infectious people choose not to stay home. Understandably it’s not always possible to confine yourself to bed, but if you can, you should. By the same token, if you want to avoid picking up a cold, then avoiding busy places such as public transport will increase your chances of avoidance by a large margin. By following these three simple steps, you should be well placed to either beat your cold quickly or prevent it altogether. And if you need to warm up quickly when it’s cold outside, don’t forget about our huge range of relaxing whirlpool baths – the perfect way to beat the winter blues!
