Let’s face it: nobody really loves cleaning the bathroom. You may get a flash of inspiration every now and then, but when it comes down to it, anything to make the job quicker or more efficient is usually most welcome. If this sounds like you, we’ve got some good news! In today’s blog post, we’ll be sharing three unusual-yet-effective cleaning tips you can try in your bathroom.
Okay… rubber gloves at the ready!
3. Get streak-free mirrors with lemon, vinegar, and a ball of newspaper
If you’re one of the legions of people across the UK waging war against streaky glass and mirrors, this one’s for you. While there are plenty of products out there which claim to be “streak-free”, if you’ve actually used any of them, you’ll know that such a claim is often exaggerated. So why not try something more homemade? Just mix about 75ml of white vinegar with 4 tablespoons of lemon juice, then grab an old newspaper (stick with us on this), crumple up a page or two into a ball, then dab and wipe the solution on your glass surfaces. With a little elbow grease, you may just be amazed at the results you’ll get.
2. Use bleach-soaked strips of paper to clean your tile grouting
Getting tired of those grimy intersecting lines running through your lovely bathroom tiling? No matter how hard you try, it can sometimes seem like cleaning grouting is a fool’s errand – but there is a hands-off way you can deal with it. First, pop on your rubber gloves, then just grab some paper, (even newspaper, if you’ve got some lying around from our first tip) and tear a few narrow vertical strips. Pour some bleach safely into a plastic container, then soak your strips of paper for a few minutes. Finally, delicately place your bleach-soaked strips of paper along each of the grimy grout lines and leave them there for an hour or so. Come back, remove the strips, then give the grouting a quick wipe – you should be very pleased with the results.
1. Create the ultimate home-made cleaner with vinegar, baking soda, and washing-up liquid
Here’s a tip that won’t only change the way you clean your bathroom, but save you money and help protect the environment too. Talk about a trifecta! We all have a “go-to” cleaning spray which is suitable for multiple surfaces, fixtures, and fittings, but even the eco-friendliest of products will cost you over time. Instead, we’d recommend creating an all-purpose cleaning spray that’ll tackle even the most stubborn dirt and grime — using just vinegar and baking soda. Just grab an empty spray bottle, then add 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 2 tablespoons of white vinegar, and ½ a teaspoon of washing-up liquid. Give it a shake, let it foam a little, then fill the rest of the bottle with warm water. Congrats! You’ve just created one of the most versatile all-purpose cleaners you can find — ideal for wiping surfaces, cleaning taps, or washing down bathroom tiles. And, even better, it’s totally eco-friendly and (as you can tell) contains absolutely zero chemical nasties.
These bathroom cleaning techniques might not make the task any more appealing, but hopefully they’ll make it a bit easier from now on. Want even more expert advice about creating your perfect whirlpool bathroom?
